Inter-School Sports!

Hi everybody,

Finally Inter-School sports starts next week, unfortunately I do not get to participate because of my fractured leg, but I get to kind of coach the soccer team.  I am looking forward to having fun, watching the team enjoying themselves. For me it’s not about winning or competing, it’s just for fun. I’m hoping to develop coaching skills and to earn the trust of the players. A good team works together, are friends, they have fun and put lots of effort  into the game.

What do you think makes a good team?

Around with literacy

Hi everybody,

This term for literacy circles we have been doing something different instead of doing a role each week and conferencing with your group, we have to complete four tasks over a week and do our literacy circle book we got assigned to read. My book is called someone like me.

One task requires you to read any book for the whole session, one is exactly the same but you need to write your wonderings, feelings, Unknown/interesting words, questions etc… on a posted note, another is to complete a task on lit circle book, and the other is to conference with the teacher. Also we have to record how many pages we have read, what time we started reading and finished, what the date it is and what the book is called. I was surprised that it was easy, fun and that I completed it. I’m most proud of my lit circle task, it is 10 questions about my book, I think that I put a lot of detail and effort into the questions. Im determined to try to fully complete my Literacy Circle tasks to a high standard every week.

What is your book?

Two classes one Zoo

Hi everybody,

On Monday the 9th of October, Senior B and Senior R went to the Melbourne Zoo in Parkville for our inquiry topic about endangered species. I discovered that one of the SOS 10 the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect was thought to be extinct for 80 years, but were still alive. The reason why they became extinct is because the europeans’ introduced rats which ate most of them.  Now I know that all the reasons why animals are becoming extinct/endangered, the reason is because of CHIPPD which stands for Climate Change, habitat loss, Introduced species, pollution, poaching and disease. I wonder how they know that Orangutans will become extinct in 10 years if we don’t help them?

What did you learn at the Melbourne Zoo?

My General Goal

Hi Everybody,

Welcome back to my blog it’s been to long weeks of resting now it’s time to get back to blogging. My Goal For this term is to put more effort into making all my work neater, even if it’s a draft, and a bit more legible. I chose this goal so that when I get to high school I could get marks taken away for messy work and it would also look bad.

What do you think of my goal? What is your Goal?

My Awesome Inquiry Menu!

Hi Everybody,

For the past 6 weeks for inquiry we have been completing a Menu. Not an ordinary Menu, a menu for what we choose for our inquiry topic, I choose Issues. For the Canape we had to write the references that we got our information from, for the Entree, we had to choose between a timeline, venn diagram or mapping, for the main we had to choose between a historical narrative, exploding the moment or open minded portrait and for dessert we got to choose a movie, song/poem and an art piece. It was really fun, Now take a look at my menu.

Did you enjoy this topic? Did you like my work?

Writing Limericks With Will

Hi Everybody,

Hope you are enjoying the first week of spring, for the past few weeks in writing we have been writing poems, different kinds of poems. Limericks, Cinquains, Haiku’s and rhyming poems, but today I’m going to show you how to write my favorite poem, the LIMERICK. It is very short and simple, it’s a silly poem that tells a story in five lines with the rhyme scheme AA BB A. Here is a link to an example of a limerick that I wrote.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/126bqZhksuZMjw4CPUMIVSfg8NWfeSb4LJdEjjr5NzYE/edit

What is your favourite poem? Why?

Don’t take it literally

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday we learnt about idioms, if you don’t know what idioms are, idioms are a figure of speeches, figurative language. We watched a video on idioms, here is the link to the video https://vimeo.com/41537538  the video is about the literal meanings of some idioms, some of them are really funny. Then we went on to fill out a sheet about an idiom. Now I know what idioms are called because I thought that they were called figure of speeches. I discovered new idioms e.g joint at the hip, having a whale of a time. I wonder who came up with idioms I think that there is really no point of idioms, but I still like them. What do you think of idioms? What is your favourite one?

Immigration Museum Excursion

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday both seniors went to the Immigration Museum for inquiry to learn more about why people migrate to Australia. We got into four different groups and went around the museum. The most challenging thing was the fake Dictation Test it was so hard to keep up with and what the man said was so random. Now I know how hard and challenging it was for migrants to get into Australia especially if they couldn’t speak english. I want to know more about why migrants needed to do the Dictation Test to get into Australia. Three things I learnt: 1. Not just humans migrate animals, bugs, birds and also flowers migrate/ have migrated. 2. In the 1840’s the condition of the cabins in the boats were bad they were small uncomfortable and the toilet was close to the bed. 3.The immigration museum is the longest lasting stone building from the 1800’s in melbourne. Two things I wonder: 1. I wonder if they changed the difficulty of the Dictation Test if they migrants weren’t european. 2. I wonder why they knocked all the old buildings down except for the immigration museum. One opinion I have: 1. I think there was no need for the dictation test or they should’ve made it easier because lots of migrants got kicked out of Australia for failing.

Have you been to the Immigration Museum? What do you think of the Dictation Test?

Mui Mui Vist

Hi Everybody,

Yesterday a lady named Mui Mui came to talk to us about her journey to Australia. She talked about all the trouble her and her family went through to get to Australia. She is a tough cookie.

Now I know that we have to be grateful for what we have. What Mui Mui went through was bad, Mui Mui’s family’s valuables got taken by the communists, they got ripped off a lot and had to live in something like a detention center with poor conditions for a few months. One of the worst things Mui Mui had to do was to sit in a cramped cabin on a boat with her legs crossed with her 2 children on each leg for 5 days with hardly any food and clean water. It’s cool how Mui Mui kept going and didn’t give up. I wonder how she survived that chaos.

What did you think of Mui Mui’s story? What were your feelings when you heard it?

Goals For Term Three!

Hi everybody,

It’s Term Three and I’m back,

This post will be about my goals for Term Three, I am looking so forward to achieving them.

These are my two goals.

  1. By the end of this term I’m determined to…   add more interesting and mature vocab ( Verbs, Adjectives, Nouns etc…)  into my writing pieces so that it is more mature, interesting to read and it would hook my reader in. I can achieve this goal by reading other peoples writing pieces that have lots of great vocab and by reading more books so I can pick up great vocab and add it in my writing. I chose this goal because out of the subjects we have at this school writing was lowest marked for me, it was the lowest because my writing didn’t have many interesting and mature vocab, so I really want to achieve this goal.

2. By the end of this term I’m also determined to…   to get out of the laziness of not reading much and saying to my “self i’ll read it later” and never actually reading the book. I can achieve this goal by starting off by reading a lot of the books I like then after a while stepping out of my comfort zone. I chose this goal because it would make a big impact on my other goal which is about more interesting and mature vocabulary in writing, it would also help me in literacy and inquiry.

What do you think about my goals? Can I achieve them? Do you have the same goals?
